PARIS 2024

An Olympic summer

Why divide countries, flags, nations when the world is already divided enough as is? I love sports, and I love it when Italy wins the 4x100 – but I love it even more when mankind can come together and share a message of hope.

The Olympics. Paris. I don’t mean to take away the spotlight from the other disciplines, but my heart does beat a bit faster for track and field. When I see athletes run, jump, throw javelins and weights I forget who carries what flag and where they come from. Do flags and countries even make sense, now that the world is falling back into absurd nationalisms? When I look in admiration to the feats of someone from Cuba, Norway, I don’t really think too much of their country of origin, but about what their gestures evoke – the Caribbean Sea and the grace of a fjord diving into the ocean. Don’t get me wrong – I love it when Italy wins. I love the 4x100 relay, despite the fact the Olympic games are often the source of speculation and much more. I like sport, I like seeing new generations coming together from across the four corners of the world. And Paris will become a mecca of sorts, lighting up with medals of manifold colours.
